Now in my clan/lineage/culture, since we think it is a huge honor to be asked to give a speech at whatever function, we therefore must appreciate this by giving them one of our most treasured inheritance - a cow.
The other day, I was abruptly given the Mic to say something, not that I have issues with saying ‘something’ in front of everyone including old ghosts, not so old ghosts, present ones, then my could be and could have been you know what (for this, a glass of red (not the Labels) usually helps) and above all, the mugole is a great friend, I could speak endlessly about this being . . . and so I concluded with a cow! But why am i the one usually called upon to say that ‘something?’ Am I good speaker? A great friend? Or do these people want to finish my cows??? By the way, i am not complaining, I am only thinking aloud. Very importantly, I value this special position and therefore, do not want to lose it! I am only talking about it, so that when I next speak (mid next month) and there is culture defamation, at least I will have some written thoughts as evidence to hold my doings.
After my 3-minute speech, ‘But madam, are you not borrowing from the neighbor’s kraal now?’ One of my Cupcakes noted! And she was absolutely right. Why?
We are a bunch of 9 great buddies that have known each other almost since childhood, we are here for each other, in craziness, happiness, sorrow; Life. A friendship that will make you cut a cousin’s perhaps wedding for one of us’ babysitting, a cook out or an airport-boyfriend-pick up. It moved from a friendship to something words cannot describe. We are simply one big genuine happy family!
Now, imagine the individual celebrations we have shared as we grow and I have had to speak . . .
And so I had to go check on my dear cows, just to give them a little attention, and graze a bit. See if I will need to borrow from the neighbor’s kraal soon (who is about 5KM a way from our kraal . . .) and from the look of things I have to give giving a break at least for a while, Mzee Kezironi advised me.
Mzee Kezironi is one singular old man; I will tell you all about him sometime…
Bye for now, be kind to one another J
